Capacity is important because it determines the range and size of jobs or projects you can tackle using your routing accessories. Whether it’s the size of router bits, the length and width of mortises, or the thickness of edge banding you can trim, a higher capacity means greater versatility. A router base that accommodates larger bits or longer mortises allows you to take on larger joinery or decorative work, while a smaller capacity is ideal for precision, smaller-scale jobs / projects. I use in my shop the Woodpeckers MFRB-EXT-21 Multi-Function Router Base Extension Rods they give me an extended reach for larger circles or arcs, and I also use the Woodpeckers Mortise Base w/ 5/16 inch Guide Rods that handles mortises of any length and as deep as your bit allows. Quality is the key to a smooth running shop or DIY space.
