The size of chamfer bit you need depends on the width and angle of the chamfer you want to create. The most common chamfer bits i use have angles like 45° or 22.5°, and have a bearing at the bottom. I measure the size of the chamfer that I want my workpiece to have and select a bit that matches both the angle and cutting depth , adding the size of the bearing which rides on the side of the workpiece.
