Flute type determines chip removal and the quality of the cut. I use Up-cut flutes (like those in the 51405-K) because they pull chips up and out and is ideal for deep cuts and plastics but can leave a rough edge around the topof the job. Using Down-cut fluted bits (as in the 46200-K) press chips down, leaving a cleaner top surface and is perfect for laminates. Using a Compression bits (as in the 46170-K) combine both actions for flawless edges on both faces. The wide range of flute types ensures you can select the best bit for your material and finish requirements. In my shop I have a very wide selection including the ones mention above so my jobs run seamlessly and without breakage due to inferior bits.
