When I use a countersink or counterbore for a project I measure the size of the xxxx or bolt head and get a slightly larger countersink or counterbore bit so it cleanly seats at the bottom . Depending on the finish I'm looking for the bit depth is set to that so I can wood plug it to ether hide the hardware or enhance the finish with a different wood type plug. For my jobs that I use a countersink in my shop I use the Amana 55227 because it works great and I can set the depth very easily for the perfect finish I need.
