A countersink is a hole drilled into a material to allow the head of a xxxx or bolt to be below the surface for a unobstructed finish A counterbore is a cylindrical, flat-bottomed hole that allows the head of a xxxx or bolt to be below the material's surface. Both are used to create a neat unobstructed finish and secure fastener space placement. In my shop we use them to put screws below the surface and the put a matching wood type plug in on top to hide the hardware also I use a wood plug of a different wood color to accent the spot.
