Router bits typically come in two common shank sizes: 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) and 1/2 inch (12.7 mm). Some specialized or smaller bits may also have 8 mm or 3/8 inch shanks, but 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch are the most widely used in woodworking. The larger 1/2 inch shank offers greater stability and less vibration during use.Smaller 3/8 inch router bit will have a 1/4 inch shank.
