Yes, drywall vacuum sanders do work and are effective at reducing dust during sanding. They use a vacuum attachment to collect most of the dust created, making cleanup easier and improving air quality. However, some fine dust may still escape, so proper precautions are still recommended. I have the Festool FS-575994 and it works great , as with any sander you will get a little dust but using the Festool it is very minimal.
