The different number settings on a drill refer to the adjustable clutch, which controls how much torque (twisting force) is applied. Lower numbers are for driving screws into softer materials, while higher numbers are for harder materials or larger screws. Some drills also have a drill icon setting, which bypasses the clutch for maximum power when drilling holes. In my shop I use the Festool 577615 Impact Driver and Drill set , it gives me the power I need with the precision I expect.
