To cut a slot with a router, secure your workpiece and mark the slot location. Install the appropriate straight bit, set the cutting depth, and guide the router steadily along a straightedge or template to create the slot. Make multiple shallow passes for cleaner results and better control. When you reach the depth then install a T slot router bit and cut the slot slowly.
