For plunge cuts, use a straight bit or a plunge-cutting router bit, both of which have cutting edges on the end to allow vertical entry into the material. Make sure the bit is labeled as suitable for plunge cuts, as some bits are not designed for this purpose and could be damaged or cause unsafe operation.I personally prefer the AMANA Tool line of bits .
