For a 3/8" wood plug, you typically use a 3/8" countersink bit to match the diameter of the plug. This ensures the plug fits snugly into the countersunk hole after the xxxx is driven. Make sure the countersink bit is designed for the same angle as your plugs, usually 82 or 90 degrees. Also you can use a different color wood plug for a eye catching detail.
