For lettering with a router, a V-groove (V-bit) router bit is most commonly used because it creates clean, sharp lines ideal for engraved letters. For bolder or rounded letters, you can also use a round nose (core box) bit. Choose the bit size based on the width and depth of the letters you want to carve. I use the V groove also all the time because it gives the sign a more prominent look , more professional.
