There are two main types of impact drills: corded impact drills, which need to be plugged into an electrical outlet, and cordless impact drills, which run on rechargeable batteries. Additionally, impact drills / drivers can be categorized as standard impact drills and impact drivers, each designed for different drilling and fastening applications. Corded drill / drivers give you unlimited time of use and cordless drivers limit your time to the amount of charge on the battery . On my cordless tools I always carry a second and sometimes third battery plus my charger for them for extended use .
