Upcut router bits pull chips and material upwards, which helps clear debris from the cut but can cause the top edge to splinter. Downcut router bits push chips downward, resulting in a cleaner top edge but may push debris into the cut, making chip removal harder.When choosing which bit I prefer using the Downcut bit for the starter cut then I switch to the Upcut for the finish cuts.
