To surface a wood board with a router, secure the workpiece and use a router sled to guide the router evenly across the surface. Move the router in overlapping passes to remove high spots and create a flat, smooth surface. Check your progress frequently with a straightedge to ensure flatness.
Then you can flip the board and take a light skim pass to clean it up.
