A SawStop table saw detects when a finger touches the blade by sensing electrical conductivity. Human skin conducts electricity, unlike wood, so when the blade contacts skin, the saw’s sensor triggers a rapid brake, stopping the blade within milliseconds and dropping it below the table to prevent serious injury.
