Cutting 18mm Baltic Birch with 46170 downcut bit: DoC, feeds at 18k/24k RPM, chipload vs DoC, chipout? CNC Solid Carbide Compression Spiral Bits - 2 Flute

Hi

I have a 46170 compression bit. I would like to cut 18mm Baltic Birch ply. The B1 measurement on the tool is 7mm.

My machine is a desktop self built which runs comfortably at 2000mm/min max feedrate.

1. Do I need a minimum depth of cut of 7mm to engage the downcut and hence eliminate chipout?
2. If so, a 9mm DoC would give me two passes. What would be the correct feed rate at 18000 rpm at 9mm DoC.
3. It seems all your feeds use this RPM. My spindle can go to 24000rpm. Why would I not use the faster RPM.
4. Does chipload double when you double depth of cut? Is it a linear relationship. I see your chiploads per the sheet are for DoC=Tool diameter.

Your advise is much appreciated.

Yes the minimum depth of cut would need to be no less than 7mm

Please note that you can run at any RPM you wish to, but you will need to use the formula to get the correct chip load and feed rate.
